Host this year: Oslo, Norway

Henrik Holmskov

Henrik Holmskov is the international project manager in Viborg municipality in Denmark.

23rd of February 2015 Apple announced that they would invest 6 billion DKK in Viborg by establishing one of the world’s largest data centres.

What was the secret behind this exceptional, once in a century investment?

Apple’s investment initiated an invest rush that is still ongoing in data centres in Denmark by major tech companies like Google and Facebook. Because of the investment, Viborg reached international headlines. Furthermore, the investment has had major positive effect on many aspects on local life and economy and the place’s development agenda.

Henrik played a central part in the Viborg team who for years worked to attract Apple. He knows the factors behind Viborg’s success, the municipality’s approach, set-up and how they involved central local and national stakeholders that made a difference. What is more, a place needs to help companies big and small grow so they in turn can help the local economy grow. Apple has had a major impact on Viborg’s work with international investments afterwards as well as on the local community.

Henrik will talk about how Viborg landed Apple and share hands-on advice how medium sized cities and municipalities can attract large international investments.
